As we get ready to play our first concert of the tour here in Kentucky, I can’t help but feel a calm sort of contentment. This is our 3rd, most extensive tour now, and the feeling that everything is working and growing and happening in the best way possible for NCCO is palpable for me. It’s not that we aren’t excited. We absolutely are. But rather for a different reason.
Touring is not new to us anymore… and isn’t that wonderful. We are excited because we are touring again. We are established, and I feel a sense of pride because of that.
Our first day was entirely a travel day. With a layover in VEGAS BABY! Some (me) scampered to the slot machines located all over the airport, some went shopping, some went for tequila shots, and some sampled the “oxygen bar”??? Another flight to Louisville brought us to our destination and our official bus for the tour. A bright yellow monster that says Yankee on it.
When we arrived to the hotel some of us gathered at the bar (very generous shots!) and had a pizza. Then off to bed for everyone.
I am getting ready to leave now prior to the orchestra because I am teaching a master class as part of an outreach program. I’ll meet up with the peeps later, have our sound check, and play our first concert.
John and Paula Gambs are with us tonight which the best possible way to start the tour. I am so happy about that!
So… here we go.
Life is good.
